Flange plate adaptors represent the first generation of wheel balancing adaptors that allowed the wheel to be centered on the wheel balancer in a mirror image mount to the way the wheel was mounted on the vehicle.

 

This adaptor technology has been superceded by the QuickPlate adaptor (see above).

Airgolift fits to any make and model of wheel balance

The AirGolift avoids back strain caused by lifting heavy wheels up to the wheel balancer shaft. It is also designed to lift and settle wheels on the wheel balancer shaft, This allows the best possible positioning of the tyre on the wheel balancer shaft.
There is no pressure on the shaft or the wheel during the clamping process and no false readings as a result of distortion from pressure on the shaft. Airgolift is operated by compressed air. No electrical connections.

DYNAMIC BALANCING OF MOTORCYCLE WHEELS

Not all wheel balancers can balance motorcycle wheels dynamically. Wheel balancers that can have a specific motorcycle programme. This is because the off set on a motorcycle wheel is different to a motor vehicle. The motorcycle wheel sits in front of the back plate and therefore the offset arm needs to be able to measure in front of the wheel balancer back plate. Performance motor cycles require dynamic wheel balancing .

Keeping ahead of the competition in today’s competitive environment is very demanding. Your competitor is offering similar services to you, and pressure is put on margins.
When you are making a decision to invest in new capital equipment it must either make you money or save you time. It is as simple as that!
HAWEKA’S new ProClamp manages to both make you additional income and save you vast amounts of time. It is a first in its field and brings you a win-win situation for your workshop.

Before we go into details, let’s look at the current set-up of an alignment job:

  1. Drive the vehicle into the alignment bay.

  2. Adjust tyre pressure.

  3. Attach the four wheel clamps with the sensors.

  4. Lift front axle, perform run-out compensation on the left & on the right wheel

  5. Lift rear axle, perform run-out compensation on the left & on the right wheel.

  6. After adding weight to the vehicle as per manufacturers recommendations, attempt to settle the vehicle by bouncing on each corner of the vehicle.

  7. Perform the 10 degree or 20 degree caster sweep.

  8. See readings on the screen/display.

If a technician is fast he can complete the above eight points in from 11 to 19 minutes. However this just tells you the condition of the vehicle, you have not yet adjusted a single angle. With the HAWEKA ProClamp the complete time to get from Step 1 to Step 8 takes less than five minutes, saving over 65% of the time previously needed. That’s one or two more alignment jobs – per bay – per day – every day.

How does HAWEKA do it?
With the Pro Clamp in most cases it is not necessary to jack up the car and perform the run-out compensation. This is where the majority of time is saved. HAWEKA can achieve this by using a highly accurate three point clamp design that is attached to the wheel via the tyre. The Pro Clamp’s axle is exactly 90 degrees to the three points, and therefore is sitting on the wheel in the ‘as driven position’. The ProClamp is extremely rigid and does not suffer from the same distortion all the other clamps suffer from as they are tightened to the wheel. In addition, the ProClamp has a built-in patented system which ensures the clamp’s feet sit ‘square’ to the wheel at all times. You don’t believe it? Try them yourself – you will be amazed!

What does ‘as driven’ mean?
‘As driven’ means that we have to align the vehicle as if it was driven down the road. The biggest error introduced into an alignment job is during the run-out compensation. As most vehicles today have an independent suspension, the wheel drops when jacked up, and thus the camber changes and the toe setting ‘tucks’ either in or out. When the vehicle is lowered back down, it is virtually impossible to re-settle the vehicle without driving several miles down the road. Now the readings you measure are incorrect, and the vehicle is adjusted according to the ‘non driven position’
This is both technically incorrect, and can cause major tyre wear, the very thing the alignment job is trying to solve!!!!
Moreover it can be very frustrating to the technicians. Commonly the vehicle is aligned and the customer returns complaining that the steering wheel is not centered, or the vehicle pulls to one side. With the original clamps this can not be avoided because of the jacking procedure – only the ProClamp can ensure the alignment job is perfectly accurate and the car running straight with the steering wheel centered – the first time around. 

 

Which vehicle Manufacturers align in the ‘as driven position’?

In the factory, just about all vehicles are aligned in the ‘as driven position’!   It is only right to do the same thing in the workshop  (Could you imagine the time it would take a large vehicle manufacturer to do the run-out compensation on every single vehicle?)
Several vehicle manufacturers have gone one step further, and no longer allow their dealers to align in any way other than ‘as driven’.

The Axis200 is a step down from the AXIS500 and the digital electronic inclinometer does not calculate the toe out on turns or the castor sweep automatically. It requires the use of the 20 degree scales and a manual calculation other wise its the same as the AXIS500.

Laser- sharp – Laser- fast
The greatest advantage of the AXIS500 System is speed. There is no other Truck wheel alignment machine today that allows the operator to measure a 2-axle semi-trailer tractor within about 10 minutes flat!*.
The Haweka AXIS500 is able to do this thanks to its patented laser measuring head. The measuring head is placed on the rim by means of powerful magnetic feet (with additional grab arms for aluminium rims) and the measurement  can begin immediately. Since the measuring does not need to be compensated like all other machines, there is no need for the time-consuming task of lifting up the vehicle for run-out compensation.
The system allows for the measurement of front toe, individual toe, camber, toe out on turns, turning radius, castor, kingpin inclination angle, angular tilt of axles, thrust angle and axle offset.

Portable and flexible
The precise measurement gauges are stored in a heavy-duty wooden box that ensures, even in mobile use, the investment is totally protected. No electricity supply is required, the Laser head batteries  have a minimum of eight hours continual use, the battery in the electronic protractor lasts over 2000 hours. The system is completely portable and can be used on a level or non-level site. Most traditional wheel alignment machines need a level floor, but the Haweka AXIS500 system compensates for any unevenness in the floor (an industry first).

Unique and precise
A problem area for traditional wheel alignment machines is trucks and buses, with twin steering axles. The AXIS500 wheel alignment system, when equipped with two additional turning plates, makes it possible to quickly measure and adjust the twin steering axles one after the other.

Versatile and adaptable
The system can align light trucks, heavy trucks, buses, tractors, farm tractors, cranes, earth moving vehicles and more. The system is solid state and ideal for countries where after sales service is not easy. Truck manufactures have traditionally insisted that wheels were aligned to the chassis. However, this trend is now changing and some manufacturers are now insisting that the wheels and axles be aligned to each other, disregarding the chassis. The AXIS500 offers the choice between measuring from axle to axle or from the axle to the chassis. This makes the AXIS500 laser wheel  alignment system versatile, able to fulfil the requirements of both today and tomorrow.

Economical and reasonably priced.
In the trucking industry, the second biggest cost after fuel is tyres. The AXIS500 system is so economical that almost every fleet owner will be able to afford this machine. To avoid problems with premature tyre-wear, experts recommend that truck and fleet owners have the alignment of their trucks checked with the TA30 system every 20.000 km. Given the increasing use of expensive super single tyre´s (385/425), wheel alignment is becoming more important every day.
The AXIS500 lends itself to a quick check either on the roadside, in the car park or in the vehicle workshop while the truck is not being driven, thus ensuring there is no down-time for the owner or operator.

ProScan´s unique design allows you to quickly and easily measure the Tread depth and alignment of all tyres on a vehicle – even tricky inside tyres are effortlessly accessed for measurement.

The easy to use, visual display instructions in the handset are set up for all axle types and will lead you round the vehicle, scanning wheel by wheel. Step 1 Input vehicle or Trailer ID – or access it from the ProScan memory

Step 2 Position ProScan against a tyre. A laser scan records tread depths across the tyre in under 5 seconds. At this stage you can also record other tyre details such as inflation pressure, sidewall or crown damage.

Step 3 Even inside tyres can be easily accessed for measurement.

Step 4 After measuring all the tyres (or just one) on the vehicle, an immediate report can be printed from the ProScan´s thermal printer.

Correct balancing is not just about weight repeatability, but also about angle repeatability. The ”QuickPlate™” makes this possible every time. Have you ever balanced a wheel to zero, then remounted the same wheel and balanced it again? Does your balancer then ask for more weight on the very wheel you just balanced to zero?
Generally, 7 out of 10 wheels will indeed ask for more weight. What is just as disturbing is that usually the balancer will call for the weight to be placed in a different position. Why? Did the rubber move? Of course not!
Sometimes it may call for a different amount of weight - known as weight repeatability. And other times it may call for the weight in a different position - known as angle repeatability.
If balancers are so accurate, then why does a balancer call for different amounts of weight at a different position almost every time the same wheel is balanced? Two words - Centring & Torque.

To get a smooth vibration free drive, the wheel must be centered & torqued onto the balancer, just the same way it will be centered & torqued onto the vehicle! That's it - It's truly that simple!
But that is only possible when using QuickPlate Adaptors!

The QuickPlate is designed so that when the Wing nut is tightened down, each stud on the QuickPlate will receive the identical torque. This ensures that the wheel is sitting absolutely vertical on the balancer with equal pressure in each lug hole - just as it will be torqued onto the vehicle. The result is perfect Dynamic balancing, this also allows the balancer to determine the exact position of where the wheel weight has to be placed.
Since the QuickPlate only touches the wheel in the lug holes, there is no danger of scratching alloy wheels.
In addition, all alloy wheels that have a nut moulded into the wheel design to hold the center cap, can now be balanced to perfection.
A standard back cone is used to pre-center the wheel on the balancer and the QuickPlate is positioned from the front of the wheel with the studs in each lug hole, the QuickPlate does the final centering.

The majority of performance motorcycles require their wheels to be balanced dynamically.
It is possible to create a pure dynamic imbalance (or wobble) if the wheel is only balanced statically.

mc picture 2 The Haweka ProBike motorcycle kit enables you to dynamically balance motorcycle wheels and will fit most wheel  balancers. However to balance the wheel dynamically the wheel balancer must be capable of balancing motorcycle wheels i.e. there must separate motorcycle programme or the operator must be able to input the three measurements required for dynamic balancing.

Motorcycle wheels fit on to the wheel balancer differently to car wheels, they sit in front of the back plate of the wheel balancer (see diagram).

Why are motorcycle wheels different?

Dynamic balancing requires 3 inputs:

With a standard car balancer the offset measurement is not possible as motorcycle wheel sits in front of the back plate of the wheel balancer.
Ensure that the wheel balancer you are fitting the motorcycle kit to is capable of measuring these inputs.

If only 2 inputs can be measured then the wheel can only be balanced in the static mode.
